It is easy to take a day or overnight boat trip to Monhegan
Island from nearby Port Clyde, which is about 20 minutes away. Monhegan Island is known for its small artist
owned galleries, hiking, fairy forestland, dramatic cliffs, and lobster cove. You will see artists
painting outside. If you are a photographer, you will love this island. Everywhere you look there is a photograph
to be taken. You might think you were in the 1950's. Jamie Wyeth owns a home here.

This is one of the few places in
North America where you can take a puffin tour. These narrated boat cruises will fully inform you about these rare
birds while you cruise along islands where they live. With binoculars you can get an excellent view of them.

Although it is more of a drive, it
is well worth going on a whale watch cruise from either Boothbay Harbor or Acadia National Park. Both are accessible
by coastal, scenic route 1. Boothbay Harbor is about a one and a half hour drive and Acadia National Park
is close to three hours away. Both make great day trips. Acadia National Park is stunning and known
for hiking, biking, car touring, and photography. The shops are some of the finest with beautifully handcrafted items,
jewelry, and other interesting shops. The whale watching in Acadia is one of the best with many companies to choose
from. There are also many great restaurants.
